Alternative August BHW - Oi, Jimmy! Ride to Brighton
Saturday 28th August
Right boys n girls
Lets face it a weekend in IoW is mighty expensive and not everyone can go to the rally so here's an alternative....
Ride to Brighton from East Kent, starting early, via the coast. Open to all.
Brighton on the Bank Holiday weekend has loads of scooterist related stuff going on and we plan visits to the obvious Quadrophenia locations, Pier, a visit to Jump the Gun and Dirty Harry, Bar Rockola Cafe, and more.
Inspired by the lucozade advert in the 80's with mods on scooters where the mum says 'Oi Jimmy,I've made you some sandwiches'. Video below
Photo's from the Dealers 'Oi Jimmy...I've made you some sandwiches!' Ride to Brighton over the August Bank Holiday Weekend.
Good turn out 12 scooters - only 11 returned.
The day started fine at The Pier with everyone checkin their mum had made them enough sandwiches and drinkin their Lucozade - well it was sponsored by them!
We were a bit late starting and had to change the route - sorry Suzane I know you waited in Romney but couldn't get a message to you.
All was fine and big F.E.B was had in Bungalow Caff Bexhill, sunny but watch out for those wasps.
Set off for the final leg and the drama happened.
Drew was at the back of the pack and had a bag tyre blow-out. Scooter down Drew did a Chalky from Quad and went into a Bush and hit the deck. We was three miles up the road, but a nice lady stopped and tended to Drew, called the ambulance and got a message to us. Drew was rushed to Eastbourne hospital and scooter sorted out by the constabulary.
We left him to be tended to and went off the Brighton.
Nice day, full of top quality scooters, lots to do.
Went to Bar Rocola -a propa 60 caff with a rockola jukebox, Jump the Gun, Quad Alley - well we had to!
We also met the real Chalky from Quad - see the piccys below.
Told him he had a double in Drew.
On the way back we picked up old peg leg and made for home.
Just a few mishaps - wobbly wheels, bent rear shocks but other than Drew nothin too bad.
A great day boys - well done - specially to those on their first outing with the club - Ian, Jack, Paul N - good to have you guys on board.
